Beating the Social Media Paid Ad Scam
I want to talk about a misconception that many business owners have about social media platforms, which is that platforms like Facebook and Instagram are purposely hiding business content because they want to increase ad spend. Unfortunately, this misbelief is supported by what appear as facts such as Facebook asking if you would like to increase reach by paying to boost posts, as well as statistical evidence that content from a business page is not seen by every page follower.
However, what many business owners do not understand is that space on social media platforms is limited, as well as attention spans.
From the outside, it looks like social media platforms are hindering digital marketing efforts; but in reality, platforms are providing their users with content that appeals to them. In other words, Facebook wants its audience to stay on the platform for as long as possible, instead of directing users away from Facebook to read blog posts or make purchases.
So how do you combat this challenge if you don’t want to pay for advertising on social media platforms? You need to provide content that your audience loves. Create posts that encourages people to hit a reaction button, share with a friend, post a comment, or if possible ... all three actions!
When your followers engage with a post, social media algorithms get excited and start to share that post with other followers that have not engaged with your page for a while. If you continue to post successful content, you will start to see that old posts show up on feeds of your more engaged followers.
Don’t give up on social media, it’s still a great place to gain new audiences and engage with fans. Just make sure that you spend the time to create posts that your audience loves and encourages them to engage with you.
